Rescue Me ID: 17-04-06-00167Miles (male)

Bull Terrier    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Miles was an owner surrender to MDAS. He is 2 years old and 50 lbs. He is a typical young bullie: hyper and energetic and loves playing with toys. He may be a little too exuberant for young kids and knock them over with his rough house playing, so we do not recommend a home with young children at this time. ' Miles gets along with women and older children but can be a little wary of new men he does not know... he just needs time to adjust and trust, we think he was likely hit or abused by a man in his past. ' He is a wonderful dog just looking to be loved. He is fully housebroken and crate-trained, but pulls a little on the lead. ... (Read More) He travels well in the car. He has not shown to be dog aggressive on any occasion, and he did not try to kill the cat at the vet's office. However, he is NOT a fan of the vet's office and he did get quite aggressive there; he does not like people digging in his ears so we had to sedate him for that. ' Miles is neutered, microchipped, up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. ' If he sounds like the boy for you, please apply to adopt now! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-04-06-00164Zelda (female)

Bull Terrier    Age: Young Adult

A Good Samaritan found this sweet girl at the side of the road in Hialeah, Miami hit by a car. She was clearly hurt and could not move, screaming in pain and incontinent. She was rushed to an emergency vet and found to have left pelvic, hip and femur fractures. She was not microchipped and we think most likely she has been an outside dog. She has calluses, oil on neck from being under car, filthy and horrible stink, horrid teeth that are filed down like she was grinding, and multiple missing teeth. She has fleas and flea dermatitis. We think she is approximately 5 years old, and she is a tweenie/small standard. After stabilization, ... (Read More)we transferred her to our regular vet Pet Calls in Lake Worth where she has been since, getting round the clock medical care. She currently needs IV pain medication/sedation and kept immobile to let her fractures heal as best as possible. After discussion with the orthopedic surgeon, he thought it was best not to operate on her fractures and let her heal on her own, which would take about 8 weeks. The surgery would have cost $5000, and she is at high risk for infection because of her skin condition. He felt she had a better prognosis of recovery without surgery. Zelda has been getting better everyday and recently had her Foley catheter removed and is peeing and pooping on her own. We anticipate she will be leaving the vet and onto a foster home next week. We will have a better idea of her personality then. Bull Terrier    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Mange (Demodectic),
 Abused/Neglected

A Good Samaritan found this poor boy at the side of the road in the Redlands area of Homestead, Miami... if you are familiar, this area has become a dumping ground for dogs, and you will find many many abandoned dogs there. Luckily, he was very sweet and responsive and approached the Good Samaritan who found him. Odie appears to be a young intact male, likely 1-2 years old... He is currently being treated and boarded at West Boca Veterinary Center to get his medical issues under control. It is confirmed that he has Demodex mange: his skin is awful, red, raw and with patches of hair missing. So far, Odie has been a great boy at the ... (Read More)vet.     Chuleta comes to as an owner surrender to MDAS. She is an adult female weighing approximately 45 lbs. She gets along great with people including children, but does not get along with other dogs. She has not been cat tested. She is very energetic and strong, and can become overstimulated when playing. Like many young bullies, she has a tendency to nip. She is in need of leash training. Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive,
 Abused/Neglected

Bullie family, let's please give a warm welcome to the newest member of our family, Miss Sophie (formerly Spud from MDAS)... clearly she has had a rough life, most likely been used as a breeding machine and thrown out like yesterday's garbage when she was no longer of use. We will be vetting her ASAP, but until then, what we know so far is that she has an ear infection, eye infection with dry eye and corneal scarring, severe dental disease with multiple broken canines, overgrown nails, skin inflammation/infection, calluses, multiple mammary tumors, Grade II heart murmur and is heartworm positive. Her belly is firm, distended and tender to ... (Read More)touch. She can stand and walk around but is very weak and lethargic. Please send some love and prayers up for this girl, she surely needs it. Rescue Me ID: 17-03-23-00277Rocky (male)

Bull Terrier    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Cancer,
 Abused/Neglected

[Read About Natural Cancer Care] We rescued Rocky from MDAS where he was surrendered by his previous owner to be put to sleep. Rocky was diagnosed with squamous cell cancer of the skin in his left groin on July 2016. At that time, the tumor was small and was fully removed. Everything seemed good, but the owners were instructed to follow-up with a cancer specialist. Unfortunately, they did not, and his medical care was neglected. The tumor came back in December 2016 and it became a lot bigger before they addressed the issue. Instead of dealing with it, they brought him to a high kill shelter to be killed. Additionally, in going through ... (Read More)his old vet records, we found out that Rocky was an outside dog and neglected for most of his young life. He has only been to the vet once in 2011 when he was just a puppy, and treated for Demodex mange. The next time he was brought to a vet was in July 2016, when his owners first noticed the tumor in his groin. He had not seen a vet in 5 years. When we found out, we could not let this happen to this sweet boy. We wanted to see if he had a chance. We pulled him from the shelter and took him straight to Animal Cancer Care Clinic in Fort Lauderdale the next day, where he was examined and evaluated by the surgeon, Dr. Weinstein. Dr. Weinstein felt that he could operate and remove as much of the tumor as he can so that Rocky can have the best chance at living as long as he can in comfort. His surgery was a success, and we opted to follow this with chemotherapy with Dr. Correa. He is receiving Carboplatin and will have a total of 4-6 treatments, spaced every 3 weeks. As you can imagine, his vet bills have been costly ($3000-4000 for the surgery, and approximately $3000 for the chemo). We have started a YouCaring page to raise these funds: https://www.youcaring.com/rockycancersurgery If you are more comfortable calling in his donation directly to the vet hospital, you can do so at: Animal Cancer Care Clinic 1122 NE 4th Ave Fort Lauderdale FL 33304 United States (954) 527-3111 *** Please ask for Elysse - say donation is for Rocky with Bull Terrier Rescue of the Sunshine State *** Please help us give this sweet, sweet boy another chance at life. He is a very mellow, chill boy, and has been non-reactive to dogs in his foster home and stray cats during walks. He would be great with children. He is housebroken and crate-trained, but could definitely use work with his leash manners and counter-surfing/begging for human food from the dinner table. He has a bad habit of chewing his paws, and needs to be watched closely for that. Rocky is a picky eater and needs kibble mixed with canned/wet food; he does not like to eat dry kibble by itself. He loves to just lay with you on the sofa and cuddle. Rocky has a lot of life left in him, whether that is a year or longer. He has so much love to give. If you are that special someone to give this special boy a home, please apply online now! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-02-07-00588Spud (male)

Bull Terrier    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Female Dogs Only, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Spud comes to us as an owner surrender as she is going through some difficult changes in her life. He is 8 years old and is described as friendly, protective, shy, active, playful, nervous, smart, affectionate, obedient and calm. He is a dominant male and dog-selective. He must be introduced slowly to other dogs; he can get along with them as long as they are not aggressive to him. He does not get along with cats. He does OK with older, well-mannered children, but does not do well with screaming kids and loud noises (he gets nervous around them and starts shaking). He loves to sleep in bed with you, and is known to be a bed hog. He loves ... (Read More)wearing hooded sweatshirts when it is cold outside. He does not like loud noises like fireworks, gunshots, lightning and thunder. He goes after flyswatters, brooms, rakes and vacuum cleaners. He knows basic commands like sit, lay down, stay and nite nite. His absolute favorite toy is a frisbee. He can also be a couch potato and love to lay on the couch and cuddle. He loves getting loved on, getting praises, playing in the pool and playing in the waves at the beach. He does not like getting his face washed during a bath or getting his toenails clipped. He is very loyal and can become protective with strangers. Spud does not like being crated and had a doggie door where he was free to go in and out as he pleased, but he prefers being inside the house. He is housebroken. He is neutered, up to date on all his shots and is heartworm negative. He is allergic to pork (cannot be given Comfortis) and peanuts. He has skin allergies during seasonal changes, or if he gets any flea or mosquito bites. His diet is Blue Buffalo Sensitive Skin and Stomach and he does great on that. He sometimes hurts his knee on his back legs (overstretched tendons) after playing frisbee and needs to rest for a few days. He also has an ear hematoma that is drained occasionally. He gets nervous when going to the vet. Spud is the typical bullie - can be hard-headed and stubborn at times, and needs an experienced owner with a firm and consistent hand. If this boy sounds like the dog for you, please fill out an application for him now! We are looking for a foster or foster-to-adopt family! (Less)

7 year old male Spike comes to us from one of our local shelters where he was found as a stray. He is approximately 7 years old and weighs about 40 lbs, but is on the skinny side and could gain some weight to fill out! He is deaf and partly blind, not sure if this is related to his current eye infection and/or entropion. We will get a better handle on his vision once his eye infection is treated. He has just been neutered and fully vetted. He is heartworm positive and will need to be adopted locally so we can continue to pay for his HW treatment with our local vet in Lake Worth, FL. During his treatment, he will need to be crated and/or have ... (Read More)limited exercise/activity for about 4 months, to minimize the risk of complications from the treatment. We are in the initial stages of evaluating this sweet boy, but so far he has been non-reactive to dogs and cats, and has been great with children. He is crate, potty and leash trained. Spike will make a wonderful companion for the right person/family. Please consider opening your heart and home to this special needs boy (Less)

She is very friendly and loving with people, but very aggressive towards other animals and needs to be an only pet - absolutely no other dogs or cats.
